1st & 2nd Grade JYF Families-
We are looking forward to the start of another great season of Johnston Youth Football! We do not have all the details & dates finalized for the 2024 Fall Season yet, but this pages serve as a general outline for what to expect this year. We will largely follow the same structure we have used in the past for this age level.
Dates: Wednesday, September 4th, Johnston Middle School Stadium, 6-7pm– We will host a 1-day “Skills Clinic & Combine” with all 1st & 2nd grade players. On this day we will need all the help we can get! Any parents willing to help coach or run a station – stick around if possible! We will rotate kids through stations and let them learn some basics, while also allowing coaches to learn some of the names before teams are created.
Sunday Sept. 8th – 4:45-5:45pm: Meet your Coach, 1st Practice as a team (Johnston Middle School Stadium). Time subject to change based on field availability
Sunday September 15th– Games Begin – Play for 5 consecutive weeks with the final game October 13th. Plan to start your practices around 3:45pm on the first Sunday (15th)!
What you’ll need: Cleats recommended (tennis shoes will work though), water bottle, a mouthguard is not required, each kid will get a jersey as a part of the registration fee- we plan to distribute those at the first game.
Location: As of right now, all games are scheduled at the Middle School Stadium on the turf field. Please note, there is a chance the 7th grade games get pushed back, which would boot us to the grass fields East of the Stadium.
Game Day Structure: meet at your team’s field to find your coach, have a 20 minute practice, followed by a 40 minute game.
We will play 8-on-8 flag football, 40yd fields, score is not kept, everybody plays every position: we want this to be as fun as possible for the kids!
The main field will be divided into 4 separate, smaller fields for games. We will communicate which field your team plays on once we have the teams divided out.
Times: Again, we are not 100% sure what time these games will be played just yet, and please be flexible as we may have some last minute changes due to older age levels needing to adjust their schedules. 1/2nd graders will practice/play immediately following the completion of the 7th grade game being played beforehand.
Parents: Regardless of coaching experience, please consider helping out! We will make sure you have the resources to have a fun season.
Thank you & Go Dragons!
